Smart Glasses ROI Calculator

When do the glasses pay for themselves?

Two calculators, one for remote assistance and one for data collection. Each counts the full cost of the glasses, the software and the rollout, as if it were the only use of the glasses.

01

What do you want to calculate?

Agriculture and field trials often use both: remote trial visits with an expert, and scouting recorded in a structured way.

02

Your service trips

Rough numbers are fine. A field you leave empty counts as zero.

How we calculate

For remote assistance, as open above. Every line uses the values in the calculator, and nothing is added that you cannot see or change.

01

Avoided travel

Expert trips per year × share of trips avoided × travel cost per trip.

02

Expert time freed

Trips avoided × (expert hours per trip − remote session length) × expert hourly cost.

03

Shorter downtime

Incidents per year × repair time × repair time saved × cost of an hour of downtime. Only counted when you fill it in, because it is the hardest to prove.

04

What the costs include

The glasses, paid up front and bought again at the end of their life. Software per pair per year: Iristick.Assist free, Assist Premium €300 or Iristick.Teams €365. Other running costs per pair and a one-off rollout.

05

Timing and payback

Hardware and rollout are paid in month 0. Savings ramp up in a straight line to full use within three months at most. Payback is the first month the running total reaches zero.

Not included

VAT, financing or leasing costs, tax effects and depreciation, resale value of the glasses, customer satisfaction, and time the technician on site saves. These vary too much between companies or are hard to put a number on.

A worked example, remote assistance

Take a service team that makes 40 expert trips a year, at €1,000 travel per trip. If 25% of those trips can be handled by a call, 10 trips go away and the team saves €10,000 in travel alone.

Each of those trips takes the expert 16 hours, against about 1 hour on a call, which gives 150 expert hours back a year, worth €12,000 at €80 an hour.

With 1 pair of Iristick.G3 at €2,275, a €200 rollout and €605 a year in running costs and software, the glasses pay back in month 3 and leave the team €59,900 ahead after 3 years. Downtime is not counted.

Each calculator counts the full cost of the glasses as if it were their only use. If your team does both, the real payback is faster. Assumptions last reviewed: October 2026.

Questions

How long until smart glasses pay back?

It depends mostly on how many expert trips a call can replace, or how many hours your team spends collecting and typing up data. In our remote assistance example, one pair pays back in month 3. Teams with few expert trips, or trips that are cheap, can take longer. Enter your own numbers above to see where you land.

What does remote assistance cost per technician?

A pair of Iristick.G3 glasses costs €2,275, once. Iristick.Assist is included free. Assist Premium adds €300 per pair per year, Iristick.Teams €365. The calculator also adds other running costs and a one-off rollout, so the total is closer to what you will actually spend. All prices exclude VAT. Build your setup on the pricing page.

Why are there two calculators?

Remote assistance saves trips and expert time, data collection saves the hours spent recording and typing up. Each calculator counts the full cost of the glasses as if it were their only use. If your team does both, as many agriculture teams do, the real payback is faster than either result.

What is not included in this estimate?

VAT, financing, tax effects, depreciation, resale value, customer satisfaction and the technician’s own time savings. Downtime only counts when you fill it in, because it is the hardest to prove.

Which numbers should I show finance?

Put the sliders toward the conservative end and leave downtime empty. If the case holds there, the rest is upside. If it only holds at the optimistic end, a 6-week trial on your own site is the better next step.

Can I work out the numbers for healthcare?

The benefits there are too broad for a calculator like this: patients get expert help at home without travelling, family members don’t need to arrange transport, and nurses can help their patients themselves. We’re happy to work out the numbers with you. Get in touch.

Do I need to leave my email to see the result?

No. The result is always visible on this page, and you can download it as a PDF without an email.

Test these numbers on your own site.
