Digital acceptance checklists with smart glasses

In light of an innovation-backed Vlaio project, Iristick smart glasses were trialed as a first in the airfreight industry. Together with our partners Aviapartner and Air Cargo Belgium, two proof-of-concepts were developed and tested last year aiming to innovate the airfreight industry with the help of smart glasses. As this project has come to an end, we’re taking a moment to look back at all things accomplished.

The goal of the project came down to finding a more efficient way to accept, check and handle shipments at BRUcargo with the help of smart glass technology. The first proof-of-concept focuses specifically on digitizing the acceptance checklists for damage control and shortage, while the second proof-of-concept was designed to innovate and improve the current operational processes. In this regard, multiple manual tasks were automated by automating the label recognition module.

For both proof-of-concepts, the Proceedix digital work instruction software platform was implemented, allowing warehouse operators to work completely hands free. Equipped with a barcode scanner and voice commands, Iristick smart glasses seemed highly valuable for the two processes described above. Next to providing guidance for complex workflows, a shorter learning curve was experienced with the complete execution being 100% paperless and directly sent to the cloud. It goes without saying that the digital and dynamic work instructions were made available in the blink of an eye, embedding a first-time-right approach for these complex logistic workflows.
